Fluorides have been used for many years to help prevent dental decay. Today, most dental professionals apply fluoride in their offices as a foam, gel or varnish. Fluoride varnish (5% sodium fluoride) has been widely used in Europe for several decades and its use is increasing in the United States. Varnish comes in tubes for multiple applications using a cotton swab, or as prepackaged single doses with a small disposable applicator brush.

Studies show fluoride varnish to be the most effective high concentration fluoride application available for a number of reasons:

• Fast and easy to apply.
• Patients can eat and drink immediately after application.
• Varnish stays on teeth for 4-6 hours, then is easily removed by brushing.
• Creates a reservoir of fluoride that is released for up to 30 days.

CariFree Fluoride Varnish is a mixture of 5% sodium fluoride in a resin carrier, packaged in a convenient single-use dose for easy application.  Each box contains twenty-four .4mL unit-dose applications.
