CASE 1: Beth Tucker

Situation: When Beth Tucker first heard about a dentist who was using a new innovative system to prevent cavities in a newspaper article, she traveled 135 miles to see this dentist. Beth presented a lifelong history of continuing decay, fillings leading to crowns, leading to root canal treatments and extractions. She was depressed at the thought of losing her teeth at the age of 47. Her previous dentist had thrown in the towel and had given her no hope.

CariFree Testing: A Caries Risk Assessment Questionnaire was completed which identified Beth with a high risk of getting dental caries. She also scored high with the CariScreen test with a reading of 5,955. Beth clearly had a high risk of developing future dental caries.

Restoration and CariFree Treatment: Beth was treated to restore function and also esthetically to improve her smile. Her restorative treatments cost $10,793. At the same time, her cariogenic biofilm was treated with several cycles of CariFree Treatment and Maintenance Rinses.

Results: Beth’s CariScreen score fell all the way from 5,955 to 780, with a low risk of getting dental caries. She has now been decay-free (for the first time in her life) for the past two years. Her entire family now travels the 135 miles to see this dentist. They are healthy and decay-free as well.

CASE 2: Amy Price

Situation: Amy Price came to the office with a history of recurring decay. Amy was averaging 12 new lesions per year. By the time she was 17, her parents had had enough. They decided to let her teeth go, and have them extracted when she was in pain. They were resigned to placing her in dentures. The dentist was able to convince her mother to give him one year of treating Amy both restoratively and medically to see if he could make a difference.

CariFree Testing: Amy’s score on the Caries Risk Assessment Questionnaire was high, and her CariScreen score was also high at 9,974. She clearly had an overgrowth of cariogenic bacteria in her teeth’s biofilm.

Restoration and CariFree Treatment: Amy was treated both restoratively and for her cariogenic biofilm. Her restorative treatment bill came to $9,228. Amy required several cycles of the CariFree Treatment and Maintenance Rinses to re-establish a healthy biofilm.

Results: Amy’s CariScreen score dropped from a high of 9,974 at initial assessment to a post-op score of 1,321. At the end of one year she only had one recurrent lesion. It was by far the best report she had ever had. Amy has now been decay-free for over a year. After Amy’s success, her mother had the rest of the family treated because they all had “poor teeth.”

CASE 3: Dennis Coffman

Situation: Dennis came into his dentist’s office expecting to get complete set of dentures. He had slowly lost a number of teeth during his 67 years of life due to continuing tooth decay. Dennis had adequate teeth to save, but he didn’t believe it was worthwhile trying to save them. All the money he had previously invested in his teeth had turned out to be a waste. After hearing about CariFree, Dennis decided to try and save his remaining teeth.

CariFree Testing: Dennis’s score on the Caries Risk Assessment Questionnaire was high, and his CariScreen score was also high at 7,366. His chances of developing future dental caries were very good.

Restoration and CariFree Treatment: Dennis’s restorative treatment required several extractions, full crowns, fillings and partial dentures. His total bill was $8,989. He also was treated with the CariFree Treatment and Maintenance Rinses.

Results: After several months, Dennis’s post-op CariScreen score had dropped to 557, a significant reduction from his initial score of 7,366. He has been decay-free for 12 months following treatment. Dennis is now being monitored for caries risk on an annual basis.

CASE 4: Brad Simpson

Situation: Brad Simpson, an 11 year old boy, showed a mouth full of serious decay upon examination. His parents were frustrated with his recurrent history of tooth decay.

CariFree Testing: The Caries Risk Assessment Questionnaire showed Brad to have a high caries risk. The CariScreen test score also showed a high caries risk with a reading of 9,132. Brad clearly had a case of cariogenic biofilm that was destroying his teeth.

Restoration and CariFree Treatment: Brad’s restorative treatment included extraction of severely decayed primary molars, numerous restorations and space maintainers. The cost of his treatment plan was $2,456. Brad’s cariogenic biofilm was also treated with the CariFree Treatment Rinse, followed with the CariFree Maintenance Rinse.

Results: After 1 month of CariFree Treatment and Maintenance Rinse treatments, Brad’s CariScreen score dropped from a high of 9,132 to a low caries risk reading of 826. He now has a healthy tooth environment and will be monitored annually for any caries risk.
